Africa: Online shopping festival to enhance China-Africa collaboration

An ongoing online shopping festival is held in China to promote the export of high quality products from African countries.

Organized by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, the 4th Brand and Quality Online Shopping Festival and African Quality Products Online Shopping Festival aims to expand the market, develop cooperation and promote digital innovation. .

More than 23 African countries, including Rwanda, participate in the festival.

Participants include more than 100,000 brands from more than one million merchants from China and Africa, according to China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

The event runs from April 28 and will end on May 12. It is organized by MOFCOM, jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, among others.

Zhou Ping, deputy director general of the African Affairs Department at the Foreign Ministry, said the online shopping festival will be of great value as China and Africa will deepen their cooperation on digital innovation this year, to improve Sino-African cooperation with a touch of digital power and help Africa face the digital divide.

“China always keeps its promises and does its best to fulfill its commitments to African friends, which is the most important feature of China-Africa cooperation,” Zhou said.

Besides the online shopping festival, important trade promotion measures such as market entry of African agricultural products and the extension of zero-duty treatment to African products have already been implemented.
