WHITEHOUSE, Texas (KLTV) — Because more and more stuff is being sold through online platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Craig’s List, the Whitehouse Police Department has come up with a helpful Safe Zone.
As the online retail market grows, criminals have started to take advantage of this opportunity. Most of the time when people sell things online, they don’t know the person they are going to meet, police say. That’s why the Whitehouse Police Department said it decided to help.
The police department has set up a place designated as a “safe exchange” place. It is a place that has 24-hour recorded video surveillance from multiple angles. This designated place allows you to meet other people, whether it’s for childcare exchanges or to pick up and pay for purchases of e-commerce items.
During normal business hours, staff are available if needed. After hours, you will need to make an appointment if time permits. The site is in the police department car park, located at 101 Bascom Road in Whitehouse. Look for the parking spaces circled in blue and the prominent signs indicating the location of the safe exchange place.
Anyone can use the safe exchange location even if they don’t live in Whitehouse. For more information, call (903) 510-7550.
